Even the End Times Have Their Funny Side
Topic: Decline of the West

I must admit that of all the things that I expected of the Obama presidency—none of them good—I never anticipated its comedic dimension. There’s something pathetically amusing in the spectacle of this small, tiny person, with his pedestrian abilities and his overweening self-regard, strutting to and fro on the public stage.

Not the least amusing aspect the Age of Obama is the enormous chasm that gapes between the celestial expectations of his adorers and his dismal record in office. Day by day, the excuse-making grows ever more shrill. Misfortunes that progressives were happy to pin on George W. Bush—unemployment, high gas prices, Muslim hatred of America, etc.—could not possibly be Obama’s fault! Perhaps, after all, the presidency is too much of a burden—even for “a sort of god.”

Nowadays there’s an undertone of quiet desperation in the optimistic statements of Democrats and the Left—but I repeat myself—concerning Obama’s chances for reelection. They must be praying that the voting public doesn’t glom on the fact that the progressive messiah is, in reality, an expensive suit enclosing vacant space. So go the excuses.

I realize that given the power of the presidency, even a nonentity like Obama can cause plenty of damage to the economic, social and moral fabric of the nation. But still—watching Barry bumble through the last three years has been an absolute hoot!
