GM Pulls the Plug
Topic: Decline of the West

No sooner do I focus on the absolute clueless idiocy of the Obama Administration’s energy policy than fresh evidence of how right I am comes to hand:

GM to Idle Chevy Volt Output as Sales Slow

Ah, the Volt! Just the other day, our glorious and puissant philosopher president was rhapsodizing over the glories of this Detroit disaster. Yet even as he spoke, GM was looking at the Volt’s lackluster sales performance and preparing to suspend production. Shades of Solyndra!

Supposedly production of the Volt is being halted for just a month, but this may prove to be the car’s death knell. Despite all the propagandizing from the Obama Administration, Consumer Reports, GM etc., the car’s sales have been disappointing. The sad truth is that at $45,000 a copy, the Volt makes no economic sense. Who would buy it, excepting well-to-do progressives seeking bolster their feelings of moral superiority?

Actually this isn’t really very funny, since we taxpayers bailed out GM to the tune of around $50 billion. Oh, and we’re also providing every Volt buyer—luckily there aren’t many—with a $7,500 rebate. And why are we doing all this? So that GM can manufacture Barry’s lame electrical hobbyhorse. But alas, there’s not a single extension cord in America long enough to keep this overpriced, underperforming lemon on the road.
