The Gay Misogynist
Topic: Decline of the West

You know who just about everybody failed to mention during the white-heat phase of the Limbaugh/Fluke/disgusting misogynist dustup? Andrew Sullivan. I was thinking about all the vile things that Maher and similar lowlifes had said about Sarah Palin—and I remembered Sullivan’s creepy, not to say demented obsession with her pregnancy. For months, he promoted the literally and figuratively incredible claim that Palin had not actually given birth to her son trig. No, no, it was actually Palin’s daughter Bristol who was pregnant, and Palin, who was Governor of Alaska at the time only pretended to be pregnant so as to avoid having her family values image tarnished by an out-of-wedlock birth. Or something. See here for a sample of Sullivan’s Trig Palin “commentary.” Aside from being hateful, it’s truly weird.

Now it seems to me that Sullivan’s obsessive raving and ranting about Sarah Palin’s pregnancy was actually worse that Maher’s string of offhand obscenities: It just went on and on and on. If this isn’t a prime example of misogyny, what is? I realize of course that progressives would angrily reject the proposition that Sullivan, a homosexual, could be guilty of any type of bigotry. Lucky Andrew, he belongs to one of the officially designated mascot groups of the Left. But over here in reality land we're honor-bound to expose Sullivan’s hateful, woman-bashing craziness, and pronounce the anathema upon him accordingly.

The Real Scandal
Topic: Decline of the West

One thing that seems to have fallen through the cracks in the course of the uproar over Sandra Fluke, Rush Limbaugh and (of course) the “Republican War on Women” is the shocking revelation that the cost of sex in America is skyrocketing. And no, I don’t mean the average hourly cost of a prostitute’s services or the bill for dinner at a good restaurant. I mean the cost of birth control. You may recall that according to Ms. Fluke, it’s costing her a cool $3,000 to stay protected during sex while she attends law school. Now that is an outrage to rival the sky-high cost of college tuition!

Of course, if Ms. Fluke can’t afford the high cost of sex, it begs a question: Can society afford to underwrite the sex lives of the women of America?. Let’s see, call it a grand a year per sexually active woman times the total number of same and we could be talking about one hell of a budget buster!

Misogynists for Obama Update
Topic: Decline of the West

As of this morning the Obama super PAC (run by former Obama adviser Bill Burton) has still not returned the $1 million donation it received from the bottom-feeding misogynist, Bill Maher. Way to set the example, Barry!

Sign of the Times?
Topic: Liberal Fascism

This could indicate a trend: Two or three days ago, my email program started directing missives from Nation of Change, the online progressive rag, to the spam folder. This was not by my direction: I rely on NoC to monitor goings-on in the left-wing fever swamps. Besides, an article like "Dennis Kucinich: Coinscience of the Congress" (by Robert Scheer, and doesn't that figure?) is always good for a laugh. But now it seems that even the software in my computer has grown weary of this tired old leftie malarky.

Misogynists for Obama Update
Topic: Decline of the West

Priorities USA Action, the Obama super PAC, has come to a decision about woman-bashing comedian Bill Maher’s $1 million contribution: They’re keeping it. Bill Burton, who runs the super PAC, explained that there’s really “no similarity” between what Rush Limbaugh said about Sandra Fluke (“prostitute,” “slut”) and what Maher said about Sarah Palin (“bimbo,” “cunt,” “dumb twat”). So that’s all right!

Running Scared
Topic: Decline of the West

A post on the Weekly Standard website by Daniel Halper drew my attention to this article in the Washington Free Beacon. Matthew Continetti writes:

Since he lacks a significant and popular domestic achievement, the president seems to have concluded that the way to a second term is through the mobilization of key constituencies rather than a broad-based appeal to middle America. He combines these appeals with cheap gimmicks to generate publicity and deflect attention from the Republican primary. Now that his job is in trouble, the man who enthralled millions during the campaign of 2008 has been reduced to just another transactional political panderer. The gloss is off. Even the liberal Washington Post writer Dana Milbank says White House hiring practices make “a joke of the spirit of reform he promised.”

The President has good reason to be worried. As Continetti points out, Obama’s job approval rating has been under 50% for almost a year now and his approval rating in key swing states like Ohio is lower than the national average. The economy is still moribund, with no discernable improvement in the unemployment picture. Gas prices are rising. Inflation has reared its ugly, wealth-destroying head. But what probably hurts Obama’s reelection prospects the most is the disappointment of many who voted for him in 2008. Gone is the stirring if airy rhetoric—

“Yes, we can!”

“Change we can believe in!”

—and so on and so forth. In 2012, the President has morphed into America’s most prominent cheap-shot artist. From the White House comes an endless barrage of gripes, wines and low-down attacks. The President and his surrogates routinely charge that anyone who opposes his policies is guilty of “playing politics,” they demonize oil companies, banks and the Catholic Church, and they’ve debased themselves by accepting a $1 million campaign contribution from the swinish Bill Maher.

All in all, this is hardly the profile of a happy, confident candidate, secure in the knowledge that he's loved and admired by millions. On the contrary: Barack Obama is running scared. And in his fear he’s allowed the mask to slip, revealing the visage of a singularly unappealing political hack.

How Many Physicists Does It Take to Change a Light Bulb?
Topic: Decline of the West

Only one—but it'll cost you $50. From the Washington Post (hat tip to NRO):

The U.S. government last year announced a $10 million award, dubbed the “L Prize,” for any manufacturer that could create a “green” but affordable light bulb.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the prize would spur industry to offer the costly bulbs, known as LEDs, at prices “affordable for American families.” There was also a “Buy America” component. Portions of the bulb would have to be made in the United States.

Now the winning bulb is on the market.

The price is $50.

Secretary Chu, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1997, is obviously a smart guy—but he should stick to things like “the development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light,” for which he won the Nobel. Because when it comes to matters of practical economics, the guy is a clueless idiot.

Misogynists for Obama Update

As of this morning the Obama super PAC (run by former Obama adviser Bill Burton) has still not returned the $1 million donation it received from the foul-mouthed and unfunny misogynist, Bill Maher. So I guess that the President's having some trouble unsticking that dirty cash from his greedy little fingers. Way to set the example, Barry.

And Another Thing
Topic: Decline of the West

The Santorum Google bomb, which was planted by a gay rights activist, makes me wonder why gays haven't denounced the swine who, on their behalf, rubbed this insult into Rick Santorum's face. Could it be that gay Americans approve of such goings-on…?

As Ye Sow, Bill...
Topic: Decline of the West

You know, I think that the Wall Street Journal’s James Taranto is on to something in this article on the Rush Limbaugh uproar:

There is, to say the least, a tension between the feminist ideal of equality between the sexes and special pleading on behalf of feminine sensibilities.

A Facebook friend of ours, a middle-aged female professional, posted a series of sanctimonious status updates denouncing Limbaugh and his defenders—a few days after she posted one approving of the Rick Santorum "Google bomb." The latter, which originated in 2003 with a gay left-wing columnist, is an obscene scatological insult that "wouldn't normally appear in a family newspaper," as our colleagues Ian Sherr and Geoffrey Fowler discreetly put it. It has been cited with a wink and a nod by, among others, former Enron adviser Paul Krugman of the New York Times.

One could argue that it's worse to insult Fluke than Santorum because it is punching down: Although she has made herself a public figure, she has considerably lower status than a U.S. senator. But several of the women [Kirsten] Powers mentions as having been targets of left-wing "misogyny"—Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann—are of roughly equal status to Santorum. If women and men are equal, and if ugly sexual insults are acceptable when directed at a male politician (Powers, let us note, does not say they are but ignores the question altogether), then isn't that just sauce for the goose?

Good question! So therefore, if it’s OK for Bill Maher to call Sarah Palin a “cunt” and Michelle Bachmann a “bimbo,” then it's all right for me to observe that he, Maher, has the face and mannerisms of a sex offender.

Finally, by way of illustrating what today’s (presumably liberal) “middle-aged female professional” considers acceptable political discourse, here’s the Santorum Google bomb of which she so heartily approves. And this lowlife vulgarian is mad at Limbaugh…?
