UNITED STATES ARMY

POSITIONAL COLORS

Page Two

Notes

In addition to the positional colors of the senior civilian and military leadership of the Army, there are a number of additional flags authorized for the chiefs of certain offices within the Department of the Army. In most cases these flags display branch colors and insignia, such as the dark blue and scarlet with shield of the Adjutant General's Corps.

The Adjutant General is the Army's chief administrative officer. The Chief, National Guard Bureau, who is responsible for both the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard, has a color diagonally divided, dark blue for the Army and ultramarine blue for the Air Force. The branch insignia dates from early in the twentieth century, and the two triangles in the upper fly are "flight devices" symbolizing the Air National Guard. The two scrolls were added to the color in 1998.

All these flags are made of rayon banner cloth, 3 feet at the hoist by 4 feet on the fly with 2 1/2-inch fringe.
