48th INFANTRY BRIGADE COMBAT TEAM, 3rd INFANTRY DIVISION (UEx)
Unit Guidons

The US Army's infantry brigade combat team (IBCT) is built around three infantry battalions, each with a headquarters company, three rifle companies (A, B and C) and a combat support (heavy weapons) company (D). Guidons for these companies are of the standard pattern for the Infantry branch. Combat engineer, military intelligence and signal companies are grouped in a brigade engineer battalion (BEB). The headquarters company of the BEB has an Engineer branch guidon and the other four companies have branch-oriented guidons. The cavalry squadron and the field artillery battalion have guidons of the standard branch pattern. The cavalry squadron has a headquarters troop, two motorized reconnaissance troops and one dismounted reconnaissance troop. The FA battalion has a headquarters battery and three firing batteries, two with towed 105mm howitzers and one with towed 155mm howitzers. Each firing battery has six howitzers. The headquarters company and forward support companies of the brigade support battalion (BSB) have buff guidons with scarlet letters and numerals but no branch insignia; the other three companies have branch-oriented guidons.
