COMBAT AVIATION BRIGADE, 40th INFANTRY DIVISION

The Combat Aviation Brigade of the 40th Infantry Division included a cavalry reconnaissance squadron with three armored recon troops and one air troop. The former were equipped with M60A3 tanks and M113A1 cavalry reconnaissance vehicles; the latter was equipped with both light observation (OH-58A) and attack (AH-1S) helicopters. The attack helicopter battalion's primary equipment was the AH-1E. The two separate aviation companies was responsible for command operations, air assault and medivac missions; their primary equipment was the UH-1H. The brigade did not have an aviation support battalion; instead, support was provided by the headquarters & service and aviation maintenance companies of the two aviation battalions.
