The 48th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized of the Georgia Army National Guard was a round-out unit for the 24th Infantry Division. Though formally a separate brigade it was in fact organized as an organic divisional brigade with three battalions. Like most ARNG round-out brigades it included an armored cavalry reconnaissance troop. The armor battalion was equipped with the M1 tank (105mm gun), the mechanized infantry battalions were equipped with the M2 IFV (25mm gun and TOW antitank missiles), and the cavalry troop was equipped with the M1 tank and the M3 CFV (25mm gun and TOW antitank missiles).
