IV
CORPS,
ARMY OF THE CUMBERLAND |
The IV Corps,
Army of the Cumberland, was established on 10 October 1963 by
amalgamating the depleted XX and XXI Corps, which had suffered
heavy losses at the Battle of Chickamauga (18-20 September 1863). It
took over the number of the IV Corps, Army of the Potomac, which had
been dissolved on 1 August 1863. The distinguishing flags shown
below were authorized per Army General Order No. 62 (26 April 1864).
The basic scheme followed that of the corps flags of the Army of
the Potomac, though the flag designs were different. The corps had
no artillery brigade, all artillery units being assigned to the
divisions; nor was there a distinguishing flag for the corps
quartermaster. Flags were specified, however, for the corps engineer
brigade and pioneer corps. |
