General Order No. 53
(12 May 1863)
specified a complete set of division and brigade flags for the corps
of the Army of the Potomac. For the Army's Cavalry Corps the order
specified only a swallow-tailed corps designation flag: yellow with
crossed sabers in white. Divisions of the Cavalry Corps continued to
carry designating flags of an earlier pattern. In August 1864,
however, a complete set of designating flags of the pattern
established by General Order No. 53 was authorized for the Cavalry
Corps, and these flags were carried for the rest of the war. |
