KINGDOM OF MOROCCO

CURRENT NAVAL ENSIGNS & FLAGS

The current naval ensign of the Kingdom of Morocco was adopted around 1992, replacing an earlier version with the green star in the center and a full-color royal crown in the upper hoist. The star—actually a pentagram—is sometimes called the Seal of Solomon, and is a symbol of ancient date. The current ensign retains the pentagram but displays a stylized golden yellow crown in each corner. The naval jack is forked, displays a different version of the pentagram and has a yellow border. The commission pennant repeats the colors of the national flag.
Except for the royal flag, the current appointment and rank flags were all adopted at the same time as the current ensign. The Royal Moroccan Navy uses the same rank system as France, its former colonial overlord. The flag of the Inspector-General displays the badge of the Navy centered. On the rank flags, the Navy badge appears in the hoist area and rank is indicated by golden yellow stars disposed in the French manner.
Flag Proportions: The ensign and all rank flags and pennants have 2:3 proportions. The jack is proportioned 1:2.
