BORDER GUARD ENSIGNS & FLAGS SINCE 1999

Notes

Like Russia, Ukraine maintains a Border Guard force that includes a naval component. Although it is a paramilitary organization with a national defense role, the Border Guard comes under the jurisdiction of the State Committee for Border Security. Its naval branch has missions similar to those of the US Coast Guard.

The ensign for Border Guard ships is a variant of the Ukraine naval ensign, but with a white cross on a green field. (Green is the branch color of the Border Guard). The Border Guard jack is the naval jack, defaced with a white cross. Most position and rank flags are based on the ensign. The current ensign, jack and position/rank flags were introduced in 1999, replacing earlier designs that were derived from Soviet models. In 2001, a Border Guard service flag for use on land was also introduced; its design is of the new standard pattern for armed forces flags of Ukraine.

Flag Proportions: Ukrainian Border Guard ensigns and flags (except pennants) are made in 2:3 proportions.
