UKRAINE
ARMED FORCES FLAGS SINCE 2001
Notes
The Armed Forces of Ukraine consist of the Army, the Navy, Frontal Aviation (the tactical air forces) and the Air Defense Forces. (The Border Guard, though organized along military lines, comes under the jurisdiction of the State Committee for Border Security, not the Ministry of Defense.) Distinctive service flags for each armed forces branch, and for the Ministry of Defense, share a common design: the branch insignia displayed on a field of crimson (Ministry of Defense and Army), light blue (Frontal Aviation) or dark blue (Air Defense Forces). The basic armed forces insignia consists of a "Cossack cross" charged with a circular tablet bearing the emblem of the state. Additional design elements are added to distinguish each branch, such as crossed swords for the Army.
Flag Proportions: Ukrainian armed forces service flags are made in 2:3 proportions. Appointment flags are made square.
Adoption Date: These flags were officially adopted on December 5, 2001.
