UNITED STATES ARMY

HHC 1st INFANTRY DIVISION (MECHANIZED)  •  DIVISION BASE UNITS

Cold War Organization  •  1988
The 1st Infantry Division headquarters and staff were supported by the division headquarters company (HHC). The HHC commander was the headquarters commandant, responsible for establishing and supporting the the division command post.
The division base units were administratively assigned to the division support command (DISCOM). Tactically, however, they were controlled by the division headquarters and so I have chosen to show them here. The air defense artillery battalion had four batteries, two with self-propelled Chaparral surface-to-air (SAM) missile systems and two with self-propelled 20mm Vulcan antiaircraft guns and Stinger surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems.
