UNITED STATES ARMY
DIVISION SUPPORT COMMAND, 1st INFANTRY DIVISION
Cold War Organization • 1988
The Division Support Command of the 1st Infantry Division was commanded by the division G-4 (senior staff officer responsible for logistics) and controlled all the combat service support units of the division: a main support battalion and three forward support battalions, one for each maneuver brigade. (The aviation brigade with its specialized requirements had its own aviation support battalion.) One forward support battalion, the 299th, was attached to the division's 3rd Brigade (Forward) in Germany. Also assigned to the DISCOM for administrative purposes were the division's base units: the air defense artillery, combat engineer and military intelligence battalions, and the divisional military police and chemical companies. Tactically, however, these base units were controlled by the division headquarters; accordingly I have chosen to show them there.
