UNITED STATES ARMY
AVIATION BRIGADE, 7th INFANTRY DIVISION (LIGHT)
Cold War Organization • 1988
The aviation brigade of the 7th Infantry Division included a cavalry reconnaissance squadron with two light motorized troops and two air troops. The former were mounted in HMMWVs; the latter were equipped with both light observation (OH-58) and attack (AH-1F) helicopters. The attack helicopter battalion's primary equipment was the AH-1F. The two separate aviation companies provided general aviation support for the division and an air assault/airmobile capability (both with the UH-60A). The brigade did not yet have an aviation support battalion; instead, support was provided by the 1-123 AV's headquarters & service company and Company D (Aviation Maintenance), and the DISCOM's main support battalion.
