The 2nd Brigade of the 3rd Armored Division was an armor-heavy formation with two armored battalions (M1A1 tanks armed with a 120mm gun) and one mechanized infantry battalion (M2 IFVs). Cavalry units organized and equipped as heavy armored formations or mechanized infantry used the designations battalion and company in place of squadron and troop.
