UNITED STATES ARMY
COMBAT COMMAND A, 3rd ARMORED DIVISION
Cold War Organization • 1960
In 1960 Combat Command A (CCA) of the 3rd Armored Division had two medium tank battalions (M48 Patton tanks armed with a 90mm gun) and two armored rifle (infantry) battalions (M59 APCs) attached. Also attached was one company from the heavy tank battalion of the 4th Armored Group (M103 tanks armed with a 120mm gun). None of these were organic to CCA which like the division's other two combat commands could be task organized with any mix of units deemed necessary. A typical task organization might consist of the units shown below plus one of the division's 105mm self-propelled field artillery battalion, a troop of the division's armored reconnaissance squadron and a company of the division's combat engineer battalion.
