UNITED STATES ARMY
COMBAT COMMAND B, 3rd ARMORED DIVISION
Cold War Organization • 1960
In 1960 Combat Command B (CCB) of the 3rd Armored Division had one medium tank battalion (M48 Patton tanks armed with a 90mm gun) one armored rifle (infantry) battalion and one armored cavalry reconnaissance squadron attached (M41 Walker Bulldog tanks armed with a 76mm gun). Also attached was one company from the heavy tank battalion of the 4th Armored Group (M103 tanks armed with a 120mm gun). None of these units were organic to CCB, which like the division's other two combat commands could be task organized with any mix of units deemed necessary. A typical task organization might consist of the units shown below plus one of the division's 105mm self-propelled field artillery battalion and a company of the division's combat engineer battalion.
