3rd ARMORED DIVISION TRAINS

In 1958 the 3rd Armored Division Trains (logistical support command) embodied three battalions and two separate companies. The 122nd Ordnance Battalion was actually the divisional maintenance unit. The 503rd Administration Company was an Adjutant General unit and used the guidon specified for that branch. Since Army aviation had not yet been organized as a branch, the 503rd Aviation Company used the guidon specified for units not orientated to branch: teal blue with the Branch Unassigned insignia and the abbreviation AVN after the company number. The aviation company was operationally commanded by the division headquarters and administratively assigned to the division trains.
