UNITED STATES ARMY
12th COMBAT AVIATION BRIGADE, V CORPS
Cold War Organization • 1988
In 1988 the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade was assigned to V Corps in the Federal Republic of Germany. The primary equipment of its two attack helicopter units, the 5-6 Cavalry and the 2-229 Aviation, was the AH-64A. The 5-158 Aviation provided general support capabilities (with a variety of helicopter types). The two separate aviation companies provided heavy lift capability (with the CH-47D) and an air assault/airmobile capability (with the UH-60A). These two companies were grouped together as Task Force Warrior. Because of the specialized logistical requirements of aviation units, the brigade had its own support battalion, separate from the Division Support Command (DISCOM).
