WAR FLAGS OF THE AMERICAS

The original Star-Spangled Banner was a garrison flag of fifteen stars and fifteen stripes that flew over Baltimore's Fort McHenry during the British bombardment of 13-14 September 1814. The sight of it at dawn on the morning of the 14th inspired Francis Scott Key to compose the poem of the same name that became the US national anthem.
