REPUBLIC OF GHANA

CURRENT MILITARY & NAVAL FLAGS & ENSIGNS

Ghana, formerly the Gold Coast, was the first of Britain's African colonies to achieve independence, in 1957. The country remained a British dominion until 1960, when it became a republic. The current national flag was adopted in 1957, as were the naval and air force ensigns. These ensigns resemble their British equivalents. The army and armed forces flags were adopted later. The national flag with gold fringe added is used by the President of Ghana in his capacity as commander-in-chief.
Between 1964 and 1966, white replaced golden yellow as the central stripe of the national flag and the ensigns were modified accordingly.
Flag Proportions: Flags and ensigns of Ghana have 2:3 proportions.
